"Helping ugly people... WHAT!?"

While researching randomly yesterday on the web, I came across an atrocious advert (atrocious being the first word which popped into my head) promoting beer. The advertisement did not specify in a brand or company, but rather advertised beer as a whole. Let me explain.

The advert is an old 1800's style and would probably have been advertised in a newspaper or magazine. In the advert there is a picture of a handsome cartoon man holding a glass jug filled to the brim with beer. He is offering the glass to the viewer, as if enticing him/her to accept the alcohol. On top of the ad, in bold letters, is the word "BEER".

None of this is very shocking. This is the beginning of a usual advert we see everyday. The horrible part is the punch line: "Helping ugly people have sex since 1862!"

This advert is promoting the use of alcohol on the basis that it makes the unattractive more attractive. This gives the viewer the idea that beer is just used to get drunk with the aim in mind being: getting laid. Promoting the use of alcohol for one reason, and one reason only: to get drunk, go home with some stranger and wake up the next morning not knowing what you did the night before, is the lowest form of advertising you can get.

If you are advertising a product, it means you support the image that goes along with it, encouraging people to have no respect towards their sexual partners and towards themselves.

To some people this may be amusing, slightly funny or maybe a big laugh but in reality it affects the subconcious of many people who are not as confident in their physical features - and now doubt their ability in attracting the opposite sex. They now believe that alcohol, or beer to be more precise, is their only way of having a good life.

This is the wrong message to be sending to the public. Think of what goes through a young child's ming when he/she begins to understand the meaning behind the words of this advert. This is the type of alcohol advertising that should not be publicised.

There are more examples of these horrible alcohol advertising that sends out the wrong message to the public - but enough of that now. I will blog again later...
